The system avoids the need for external microphones by employing acoustic communication of the voice signal both within the body and between bodies, using several points on the anatomy. This ensures confidentiality and reduced presence of ambient noise. The fixed or mobile telephone or intercom set includes a pre-amplified transmitter-receiver, operating in resonant mode. This allows acoustic communication of the voice signal both within the body and between bodies . This arrangement ensures confidentiality in the transmission of speech which specifically is largely independent of ambient noise. The appts. may also include a character keyboard which can be illuminated or provided with raised Braille-type characters, enabling use of the appts. in the dark. The set is provided with a memory ensuring that it is compatible with computers and electronic mail.
